For example, I just installed Ubuntu 8.10 (the latest at the time of writing) on our Compaq Presario SR1710NX and it was a pleasant experience - the whole process was very smooth. It has solved my problem of not being able to login Ubuntu 8.04. And most of all, Ubuntu 8.10 loads (and shuts down) faster than any of the previous versions.
